Construction of the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing takes place in stages and the end of Stage 1 is complete when native seeds and plants are added to the crossing before Stage 2 construction begins. The seeds were collected within a 3 mile radius of the crossing and a native plant nursery will also provide live shrubs and perennials. Planting should be completed in fall 2025.
Save LA Cougars is pleased to offer an assortment of the native seed selections from the crossing's native plant nursery in a souvenir seed packet. Seed sales will support the native plant nursery.
The seeds in this custom mix include:
Deerweed
Ashyleaf Buckwheat
Showy Penstemon
Black Sage
Narrow Leaf Milkweed
Foothill Needle Grass
This assortment represents just some of the seeds used for the crossing and these southern California native plants were selected based on availability and ease of use for home gardeners. All of the plants are drought tolerant and like full sun exposure. Use the links above to learn more about each plant.
All proceeds benefit the non-profit National Wildlife Federation’s #SaveLACougars campaign to build the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing and advance connectivity efforts in Southern California and beyond. The Wallis Annenberg Crossing broke ground in 2022 and is advancing toward completion in 2026. Building on significant historic preservation efforts, we are reconnecting a vital habitat corridor to help save the local population of mountain lions and ensure a future for all wildlife in the Santa Monica Mountains.
